What is Skin Needling?

skin needling

Skin Needling (or Micro-Needling) is a form of Collagen Induction Therapy which stimulates collagen, significantly improving the appearance of scars, fine lines, wrinkles, stretch marks and acne scars.

The process of skin needling is carried out by a small hand-held roller covered with numerous micro-needles. As you roll it on your skin (much like the way you would with a paint roller), these needles penetrate the upper layers of the skin (only as deep as the Needle Length used), causing a very minor trauma to the skin, just enough for it to percieve it as damage, and signal your body to release new collagen and elastin - two of the key building blocks of skin.

Our body does not see scars, wrinkles or stretch-marks as a problem that needs fixing. Also, As we age, our body's ability to produce collagen for the skin decreases - resulting in our skin's inability to heal scars faster as when we were young. Collagen and elastin induced thru micro-needling allows for skin cell regenration transforming old skin by making them new again. In essence, what skin needling does is trick the body into maintaining its natural healing process, until an improvement at a cosmetic level is reached.

This process, sometimes called "skin remodelling", can go on for months after each derma (skin) roller treatment, but noticeable results can be seen within less than a month! Our skin naturally renews itself every 40 days, so with prolong use a dramatic overall improvement can be achieved.

As a bonus, the needles create micro-channels into the dermis pushing your pores open temporatily. This allows topical creams, gels and oils to be absorbed about 30 times better than they normally would - significantly boosting their effectiveness. This is also relevant to hair loss treatments as well as cellulite reduction.

The main advantage of Skin Needling over other harsh procedures (such as chemical peels), is that it keeps the external layer of the skin in tact, so there is no downtime, and except for the reddening of the skin for a few hours - there are also no known side effects!
Is it Painful?

Rolling needles on the skin may sound scary, but the truth is that the micro-needles are so tiny that the process is very tolerable. In fact, using the shortest needle length which is 0.2mm, you will barely feel the needles, and the 0.5mm needles will feel kind of like shaving.

As for the longer lengths (1.0mm - 1.5mm), although some people can tolerate them (especially on the body areas) most people find it useful to numb their skin just before rolling. This can easily be done by using either an ice pack or a prescription-free topical anesthetic, such as Emla.
Do Skin (derma) Rollers Really Work?

Skin rollers are extensively used by thousands of health clinics and beauty salons around the world, and by now their effectiveness is beyond doubt.

Please take a look at our Before and After Pictures section to see some results people have been getting by using this incredible device.
Main Advantages of using a Derma (skin) Roller

You can treat yourself at the comfort of your own home, anytime. It's safe and simple.
There is virtually no downtime. The redness is gone within several hours after the treatment.
Unlike chemical peels and lasers, the protective layer of the skin remains in tact.
Skin needling is now well established as a treatment option for many skin conditions and it is a far more cost effective option than fractional laser therapy and delivers very similar results with repeated treatments.
Micro needling can be carried out safely on all types of skin and all skin colours, and since the outer layers of the skin are unharmed, there's also no possibility of hyper-pigmentation or acute inflammation.

Our Rollers

We have carefully chosen the best products for skin needling. After personally trying every skin roller model on the market, we managed to pick the 4 models that we think are most reliable and durable: Dr. Roller, MNS, ZGTS and MT.

You should be aware that there are many "unbranded" rollers on the market, some of them sold very cheaply, and usually made by anonymous Chinese factories. We believe that when it comes to medical devices (especially ones that penetrate the skin) there should be no compromise regarding the quality of the products we use. Therefore we make sure to get our supply of skin rollers only from certified and trusted manufacturers.

All of our rollers are pre-sterilized and made with medical-grade stainless steel needles.
